Luisa Cevese is a self-taught textile designer. She began creating textiles for fashion and interiors in 1984, providing work for companies such as Dolce&Gabbana, Hermès, Chanel, and Comme des Garçons. As head of r esearch at the Centro Ricerche Mantero in Como, Italy’s silk-weaving center, she became acutely aware of the large quantity of waste produced by the textile industry.
In 1996 she founded Riedizioni, a design studio where she re-appropriates production waste to create new materials. She gathers scraps from various phases of the textile production process, and encases them in translucent polyurethane to create one-of-a-kind fashion and home accessories. Her animating principle a simple one: “I love waste.” Luisa Cevese Riedizioni collection is sold in fashion and design stores, contemporary art museum stores, and galleries around the world.
