Ernst Moeckl is a designer active in Stuttgart, Germany. Before 1954, he worked as a technical draughtsman and designer specializing in metallurgy design. Between 1954-1959, he studied product design with Max Bill at the HfG (Hochschule für Gestaltung) in Ulm. In 1960, following his training at HfG, he opened his own product-design practice in Stuttgart. His work includes both product design as well as furniture design. His signature pieces are: the SBM 680 knock-down armchair (1958), he designed with K.H. Bergmiller at HfG (produced by Wilde + Spieth); a one-piece plastic side chair/armchair by Horn (1971); and several camera designs or equipment manufactured by Rollei-Werke Franke & Heidecke. His one-piece side chair was featured both in the Kunstmuseum’s Design Exhibition of 1998 entitled ’68-Design und Alltagskultur zwischen Konsum und Konflikt, Kunstmuseum and in the Galerie im Karmeliterkloster in Frankfurt. 1
