Wall Tile (Ottoman Empire (present day Syria)), late 16th–early 17th century

Border tile decorated in white, cobalt, turquoise, apple-green, and purple with black lines. Lower part forms part of a continuous arabesque frieze featuring interwoven cloud bands. Upper half composed of two quadrants of a four quadrant repeating design, make up of a system of conventionalized blossoms, leaves, stems, and arabesques in shaped cartouches.
