Towel (Greece), 18th century

Cream-colored panel embroidered with cream raw silk and silk floss, with drawn work. One end, almost half the towel, has two stylized vines containing tulip with 8-lobed rosette on stem and two large cone-like leaves, flanking symmetrical curving ornament, the whole surrounded by drawn work borders and terminating in elaborately knotted fringe. The upper half of the towel is plain except for two large parallel zigzags.
