Textile (Laos), 1900–1950

Three bands of various cloth weaves: plain cloth top border, plain cloth with weft ikat in center band, fancy compound cloth lower border. Wide stright tubular skirt made up of three horizontal bands hand sewn together: wide central band of fine silk cloth ikat-dyed to form narrow vertical stripes, some plain, some with zigzag or contorted dragon repeat in dark green, cerise, orange, black, purple, white, and turquoise. Bottom border has wide horizontal bands of silver fancy cloth and narrow guard stripes of cerise, purple, and green. top border (to be gathered in folds under sash0 is vertically striped with yellow and metal stripes alternating with narrower reddish-purple stripes in white borders. Cloth selvedge, cotton warps lower border. Raw edges on top border and plain selvedges top and bottom central band.
