Sarong (Indonesia), late 19th–early 20th century

Batik sarong with a center field and deep borders at each end, in red, blue and cream. The field shows the “ceplokkan” motif (stylized, star-like flowers symmetrically arranged). The border employs the “tumpal” motif (row of isosceles triangles), flanked by several rows of narrower borders with geometric, diamond or dot forms. Two different narrow borders on the long edges: one with diamond forms and the other with red dots on a cream ground.
