Kneeling Chair (France), 1755–90

Slender, lyre-shaped back on curved molded supports; exposed frame painted gray; bow-shaped arm rest; low rounded seat with exposed frame with simple molding; quatrefoil rosette in square above each short fluted forleg and above side of each sharply slanting fluted rear leg; small square within square above back of each rear leg; peg-top feet. Back, seat and arm rest upholstered in modern ivory silk with yellow stripe and multi-color bouquets.
