Dress (Greece), late 19th–early 20th century

Woman’s dress of heavy white cotton embroidered with wool at sleeve, front opening and hem, in rose and dark brownish-red. Highly stylized plant forms in square frame with hook-shaped extensions.
Dress opens down front to waist, with standing collar, straight sleeve with square set into arms. Skirt is crudely set on waistline, and shows signs of alteration; it is made in six panels and flares at bottom. Embroidery is mostly in deep rose and black. At the back, two panels of embroidery similar in design to sleeve ornament rise from hem about 11 inches.
