Coat (Bhutan), ca. 1962

Woven cotton coat with design of thick vertical stripes in brick red with smaller stripes in mustard, blue and green. Brocaded vertical bands of geometric motifs in mustard. Collar made of two pieces of silk: blue with flowers and gold with dragons. Lined with heavy white twill weave fabric. Black tie at side.Short tapes at underarm seams. Robe is worn looped up at waist and gathered tightly at back, which produces a pouch-like area, at front.
