Cap (Afghanistan), mid-19th century

Undyed cotton quilted into narrow ribs, possibly over cording. Cording is over embroidery of coarse satin stitches in orange, black, yellow and green in a pattern of various stylized floral sprays and scrolls. Quilting radiates from the crown of the cap and runs down to the rim band, which is made of a seperate piece with ribs running around. Embroidery dates to mid-19th century and made into a cap at a later date.
